Witches and Warlocks

Yes, people do practice witchcraft.  But keep in mind that the practice of witchcraft is not much different than the practice of a specific religion to a witch or warlock.  The religious practice is called Wicca.  But someone who practices the Wicca religion is not evil or negative.  These people are not worshipping the "devil" but rather the natural order of the world.  Just as you would find good people in any common organized religion you can also find some negative or bad people.  The same is true of those who practice being a witch or warlock.  Do not automatically assume these are negative or bad people.

Yes, witches and warlocks were burned at the stake, alive, during the Salem witch trials.  Some were hung.  One person, a man, accused of being a warlock, was crushed to death with rocks because he refused to admit to being a warlock.

Possession

After talking with the various team members we have come to one conclusion...we don't know if we believe in possession or not.  Is possession really possession of one's physical body or is it a mental illness?  Is it possible for one's soul to be pushed to the background while another takes over the body of that the soul is meant to be living in?  We don't know.  There is no real way to prove possession.  The Catholic church, and many other  churches, seem to believe possession is possible, especially by demons.  But that would then require one to believe in demons.  No one on the Eeeek team even believes in the devil.  They believe there is positive and negative in the world, broken down to the terms of good and evil but a place called hell with the devil ruling it...we don't happen to believe this to be true.  We get deep into religious beliefs here but if God is your Father, being a parent myself, I can't imagine any parent ever wanting to punish their child for all eternity unless that parent is mentally ill in the first place.  This just doesn't make sense to us here at Eeeek.  So we have to answer that we don't believe in demons, the devil, hell or anything along those lines.  God is love and a loving God couldn't do any of those things suggested by most religions.  So is possession something that can truly happen?  We don't really know!  We don't believe possession by a demon (which we believe is not real) can happen but can possession by a really bad person (considered evil) happen?  We can't answer that!  You have to make that call for yourself.  We can only tell you what we believe.

Werewolves

Team Eeeek doesn't believe a human form can convert into a wolf form just because the moon turns full.  We are sure there are some people who believe this to be true but we don't happen to believe.

Vampires

Vampires, or the living dead. There are people who actually practice the acts of vampires.  No, we don't mean they go around biting into someone's neck and sucking their blood but they do drink blood.  Whatever would possess someone to do this is beyond us.  Especially with the dangers of all the diseases in our world.  But people do practice this strange custom.  Are they living dead, if they are then they are ghosts, not vampires.  The short answer we have is that vampires, as living dead, do not exist.

Jersey Devil and The Moth Man

I'm certain that people truly believe in the Jersey Devil and the Moth Man but we find it rather hard to believe that either of these creatures truly exist.  If the Jersey Devil were real, according to the story about how the devil came about, he would have to be several hundred years old now.  The Moth Man, well if he truly exists why hasn't he been seen for a number of years?  Sorry but we here at Eeeek find these stories rather hard to believe.  We do believe that people reporting seeing these two creatures saw something but what exactly they saw is very hard to tell.

Grim Reaper

The term 'Grim Reaper' first appeared in print in 1525 when a French artist drew a picture of his image of death - he called the figure in the drawing the grim reaper. Throughout history there have been many versions of the so-called 'grim reaper' printed and simply drawn...each culture has a slightly different name and picture of the 'spirit of death.' Death is not a spirit but rather an event. It is the transition from one dimension (the physical) to another dimension (the spiritual).

Crop Circles

  1. Are crop circles a form of communication from alien life forms?
We don't know!  Evidence is not adequate enough to determine how or what is forming crop circles.

  2. Are crop circles just a bunch of people playing tricks on us?
Certainly some of the crop circles are man-made.  But not all can be.

  3. What is the true meaning of a crop circle?
There is no real way to answer this question.  There has been many, many studies on crop circles but little answers as to how they are formed, or who or what is forming them.

Big Foot

Is Big Foot real?  Good question!!!  We don't know for certain, but then, neither does anyone else but those who have seen a Big Foot creature.  There does seem to be enough evidence to indicate there is something like a Big Foot creature out there ...but there is no proof, like the body of a dead big foot or the skeleton of one.  There are animals being discovered every so often that many never believed existed.  Is it possible that Big Foot is one of those animals...sure.  Study and read about the evidence regarding Big Foot and make your own decision.

 The Old Hag

Yes, we are aware of the Old Hag belief. The name of the phenomenon comes from the superstitious belief that a witch - or an old hag - sits or "rides" the chest of the victims, rendering them immobile. Although that explanation isn't taken very seriously nowadays, the perplexing and often very frightening nature of the phenomenon leads many people to believe that there are supernatural forces at work - ghosts or demons.

The experience is so frightening because the victims, although paralyzed, seem to have full use of their senses. In fact, it is often accompanied by strange smells, the sound of approaching footsteps, apparitions of weird shadows or glowing eyes, and the oppressive weight on the chest, making breathing difficult if not impossible. All of the body's senses are telling the victims that something real and unusual is happening to them. The spell is broken and the victims recover often on the point of losing consciousness. Fully awake and well, they sit up, completely baffled by what just happened to them since now the room is entirely normal.

Confronted with such a bizarre and irrational experience, it's no wonder that many victims fear that they have been attacked in their beds by some malevolent spirit, demon or, perhaps, an alien visitor.

The phenomenon occurs to both men and women of various ages and seems to happen to about 15 percent of the population at least once in a lifetime. It can occur while the victim is sleeping during the day or night, and it is a worldwide phenomenon that has been documented since ancient times.

The medical establishment is quite aware of this phenomenon, but has a less sensational name than "old hag syndrome" for it. They call it "sleep paralysis" or SP (sometimes ISP for "isolated sleep paralysis").

So what causes it? Dr. Max Hirshkowitz, director of the Sleep Disorders Center at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Houston, says that sleep paralysis occurs when the brain is in the transition state between deep, dreaming sleep (known as REM sleep for its rapid eye movement) and waking up. During REM dreaming sleep, the brain has turned off most of the body's muscle function so we cannot act out our dreams - we are temporarily paralyzed.

"Sometimes your brain doesn't fully switch off those dreams - or the paralysis - when you wake up," Hirshkowitz told ABC News. "That would explain the 'frozen' feeling and hallucinations associated with sleep paralysis." According to his research, the effect only really lasts from a few seconds to as long as a minute, but in this half-dream half-awake state, to the victim it can seem much longer.
