From a Visitor in
Colorado
I have always had some s ort of connection with spirits and ghosts, whether that's a good thing or not I don't know. As a very young child I had frequently seen ghosts disappearing when I looked at them and sometimes they would advance toward me, but one night in particular they seemed especially out to bug me.
One night, as I was walking down the hallway into my room, I saw something on the floor. Looking down I noted that it looked like some sort of face. After a moment of staring I came to the conclusion that it was a bodiless head, staring at me with big googly eyes and its mouth open. I got completely freaked out and raced into the kitchen, where my mom and brother were cooking dinner. I told them that there was a skull in the hallway, and of course they didn't believe me. They came and looked and at first they could not see it. But when I pointed out its exact location and what it looked like to me, they both suddenly saw it and quickly my mom turned on the light. But it had gone. When she turned the light off again it was back, staring at us with its lifeless eyes. The three of us bolted from the hall and tried to forget about it. But that night as I was brushing my teeth I saw a shadow lurking over by the shower. I turned quickly to it but it vanished as I looked at it. !
At this point I was convinced that something was lurking around our house.
Later, when I was in bed, I finally mustered the courage to turn out the light, but immediately after I did I saw something moving by my stairs. My room is in a loft, so there is no door. I recognized the figure as the shadow I had seen earlier, and I turned on the light but it had gone just as quickly as it had come. Uneasily I tried to forget about it and eventually turned the light off again, peeking out from a small hole in my sheets toward the stairs. A few minutes passed where nothing happened but then I heard a creak and it was apparent that something was coming up my stairs. It walked slowly, almost as if it was being held back by something and was struggling to walk forward. As it reached the top of the stairs I saw that it was black, so black that its silhouette stood out in the night. It was large and bulky with no apparent shape, but it appeared to have some sort of billowing cloak on. It advanced toward my bed and stood there silently for a moment. Then it went rigid and fell forward, on top of my chest. I felt very cold and for a moment I couldn't breathe. I have no idea what the spirit was trying to do but something must have caused it to retreat, for suddenly there was a violent jolt, and then I heard a scream and saw the shadow vanishing into the air.
For the next few nights I was on the lookout for the skull or the spirit, but I saw neither. Until one night when I went to my dad's house for the weekend. I was wary that the ghost might have followed me, and in my panic I wrote a sign stating for it to go away and posted it on my bedroom door. That night as I was drifting off to sleep I noticed that my door was open, so I got up and closed it. The door is very close to the carpet and is rather hard to close as well as to open. When I was back in bed I looked toward the door and noticed it was wide open. As I got up to close it again I saw the shadow, the same one that had been at my mom's house. It looked at me a moment before disappearing.
I never saw it again, but I sure got the heebie-jeebies from it while it lasted.
