  THE
BROOKDALE
LODGE
Nestled in the hills of Central California is a grand old lodge known as Brookdale Lodge. In its hay day Brookdale Lodge was visited by many big named stars of Hollywood. This picturesque setting is even more enhanced by the Lodge's dining room where a brook runs through
the center of the room. Making dining a pleasant and enjoyable
experience with the song of the rushing water of the brook being the back drop.
We visited this lodge one day during the week; hoping it would be free of a large number of people. We were correct. The dining room was, in fact, empty and closed. But the gentleman in charge of the dining room area gave us permission to walk through the entire dining area. He stayed out of the way so as not to encumber us in our search for the ghost that claims this area.
Back in the days when the Lodge was always over-crowded a small child, playing at the water edge of the brook, reportedly fell into the water and drowned. This child has been seen by many people. But she is not the only one who haunted this grand lodge. Others have reported seeing and/or hearing the voice of a person in the mermaid room. (So called the mermaid room because of the window that opens to the swimming pool, so one could sit in the cocktail lounge and watch others swim).
We walked through all these areas, thanks the to generous graciousness of the dining room manager. Though we saw nothing unusual we did feel some unusual things. One specific area in the dining room felt freezing cold. This cold spot was only about four feet by four feet. As soon as you moved from that spot the temperature felt normal again. Go back to that spot and it was freezing cold again. We checked for air conditioning vents, but there were none. We looked for open windows, there were none. There was no explanation for this cold spot. But each time we returned to this spot we could feel the difference in temperature as well as the electro-magnetic change in the atmosphere. (In short, making our hair stand on end.)
When we entered the mermaid room we felt as though we were not alone. There was nothing distinguishable one could put their finger on but the temperature was colder than in other parts of the room than near the bar. Additionally we each felt something odd on the stage in the room. But again, saw nothing unusual.
Though we did not experience anything beyond the cold spots and the feeling of being watched; others have seen and heard things that can not be explained. In the mermaid room some have stated they have seen a man standing at the bar with a drink in his hand, even though the room had been closed for many hours. Others, working there, have reported seeing glasses move without assistance from anything seen. As well as chairs move.
A psychic from the San Francisco region believes there is actually a portal in the dining room. We discovered after our visit that the area she believes there to be a portal is the exact area where we felt the four by four cold spot.
